Veterans may be eligible for free medical care, including particular PTSD therapy, and disability compensation in the form of non-taxable monthly payments if they suffered certain traumatic experiences while serving. Veterans must prove that their PTSD was brought on by or made worse by experiences they had while serving in the military in order to be eligible for these disability benefits. The unfavorable incidents can have also occurred during active or inactive duty military training. Furthermore, PTSD may still be covered if it did not manifest until after active-duty service, provided that veterans can demonstrate that the service caused the disorder. This is because the Department of Veterans Affairs also examines claims for post-service disabilities. PTSD is one of the conditions that might impair the mind, body, or both for any disability claim.
