VETERANS DIARIES

Independent Gear Research

Research You Can
Trust. For the People
Who Earned It.

VeteranDiaries.com is an independent product research and resource publication dedicated to the veteran community. We don’t sell opinions. We don’t take money to recommend products. We research — and we tell you exactly what we find.

Our Core Mission

"The veteran community deserves honest. research — not paid placements dressed up as reviews."

Every article, every review, every buying guide on this site is built on a single principle: give veterans and military families the most accurate, useful information available — with nothing hidden and nothing for sale.

Our Story

Why VeteranDiaries Exists

VeteranDiaries.com was founded after recognizing a problem that anyone who has spent time on gear review sites knows well: most “reviews” are just affiliate link farms dressed up with a few paragraphs of copied spec sheet. The writer has never used the product. The “best of” list changes based on who’s paying the highest commission that month. The reader — who just wants to know if these boots will hold up after 500 miles — gets nothing useful.

We built VeteranDiaries because the veteran community deserves better than that. Veterans make real purchasing decisions based on real-world requirements. A bad boot recommendation isn’t just an annoyance — it’s a $200 mistake you feel in your feet for months. A misunderstood VA benefit isn’t just a missed deal — it’s money that was earned through service and never claimed.

Our approach is different. We don’t start with a product and work backwards to justify recommending it. We start with a question — what does the veteran community actually need? — and we research until we have an honest answer.

"We are not veterans. But we are researchers who take the responsibility of serving this community seriously — and that means never putting a commission check above an honest recommendation."

What We Stand For

Our Core Values

Radical Honesty

We publish the cons alongside the pros. If a product has a dealbreaker flaw, we lead with it — not bury it at the bottom. No product is perfect and we don't pretend otherwise.

Research First

Every recommendation starts with data — manufacturer specs, long-term user reports, community feedback from veteran forums. We don't guess and we don't copy other sites.

Full Transparency

We disclose every affiliate relationship, every commission we earn, and every policy that governs how we operate. There are no hidden deals. No silent sponsors. Ever.

Community Respect

We understand that the veteran community has earned the right to straight answers. We don't water down information, add unnecessary caveats, or talk down to our readers.

Content Integrity

Our articles are written to help — not to rank for keywords or hit a word count. If the honest answer is short, we keep it short. Quality over quantity, always.

Always Updated

Gear changes. VA regulations change. Prices change. We revisit our content regularly and update it when facts shift — not just when it suits our SEO calendar.

Coverage Areas

What We Cover — And Why

VeteranDiaries.com covers six areas that matter most to veterans and military families navigating life during and after service.

Tactical Gear & Reviews — Boots, plate carriers, backpacks, and everyday carry gear. We research these products because the veteran community makes serious, real-world purchasing decisions based on gear performance — not aesthetics.

Watches & EDC — GPS watches, tactical tools, and everyday carry essentials. These items are practical tools, not fashion accessories, and deserve honest technical analysis.

VA Benefits & Resources — Disability claims, GI Bill guides, VA health care, and housing loans. Benefits guides are informational only — we always direct readers to official VA.gov resources and VA-accredited representatives for official guidance.

Career After Service — Civilian job transition, certifications that actually matter, and how to translate military experience into language civilian employers understand. Too many veterans leave significant career value on the table because of avoidable mistakes in the transition process.

Health & Fitness — Sleep, recovery, nutrition, and fitness gear. Veterans deal with specific physical and mental health challenges that require specific, honest information — not generic wellness content.

Veteran Discounts & Coupons — Verified promo codes from brands the veteran community actually uses. We verify codes before publishing and update them regularly.

How We Work

Our Research Methodology

Every piece of content published on VeteranDiaries.com goes through the same structured research process before a single word is published.

  • Define the Real Question

Before we research a product, we define what the veteran community actually needs to know. Not "what does the manufacturer want us to say" — but "what does someone who will use this product in real conditions need to make a smart decision?"

    01
  • Specification Analysis

We start with manufacturer data and compare technical specifications across all relevant competing products. Materials, weight, dimensions, certifications (MIL-STD, Gore-Tex, etc.), warranty terms — everything that objectively defines performance.

    02
  • Community Research & Feedback Aggregation

We systematically review feedback from veteran forums, military subreddits, verified Amazon buyer reviews (filtering for verified purchases only), and direct community discussions. We look for patterns — what keeps failing, what consistently impresses, what no one talks about in ads.

    03
  • Long-Term Durability Research

We track what happens to products after 6, 12, and 24 months of real use. Short-term reviews miss the quality drops, stitching failures, and software bugs that only show up with time. We research the full product lifecycle.

    04
  • Value Assessment

Every recommendation is weighed against its price point. We never recommend an expensive product when a more affordable alternative performs comparably. Our job is to save you money, not justify premium pricing.

    05
  • Regular Content Updates

When a new model releases, when pricing changes significantly, or when community reports indicate a product quality shift — we update the review. Our content has a last-updated date on every article and we mean it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you veterans yourselves?

No — and we believe being upfront about that is important. We are a team of researchers and writers dedicated to serving the veteran community with honest, rigorous information. We do not claim military service or personal veteran experiences. What we claim is a serious commitment to research quality and editorial honesty.

Do you make money from the products you recommend?

Yes — we participate in affiliate programs including Amazon Associates. When you click our product links and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is fully disclosed on every page with product links. Critically, our commissions are earned only when you buy — which means our incentive is to recommend products you’ll actually want to buy, not to push you toward anything. We disclose all affiliate relationships in our Affiliate Disclaimer.

How do you decide what to recommend?

Research quality determines our recommendations — not commission rates. Our process involves specification analysis, community feedback aggregation from veteran forums, long-term durability research, and value assessment. If a product with no affiliate relationship is genuinely better than one we could earn a commission from, we recommend the better product and note that no affiliate link is available.

Can I trust your VA benefits information?
Our VA benefit guides are thoroughly researched and cross-referenced with official VA.gov sources. However, they are informational overviews — not legal advice. VA regulations change, benefit rates are updated annually, and individual situations vary significantly. Always verify important benefit information directly at VA.gov or consult a VA-accredited claims agent or attorney for guidance specific to your situation.
How often is your content updated?
Every article displays a “last updated” date. We actively revisit content when new product models release, when pricing changes significantly, when VA benefit rates are updated, or when community reports indicate a product quality change. We do not set-and-forget our content.
I found an error in one of your articles. How do I report it?

Please email us at contact@veterandiaries.com with the article URL and the specific error. We take corrections seriously, aim to verify and correct errors within 72 hours, and will note corrections transparently on updated articles.

Do you accept sponsored content or paid reviews?

No. We do not accept payment to feature, recommend, or write positive reviews about any product or brand. We do not publish sponsored content. If this policy ever changes, any sponsored content will be clearly and prominently labeled as such — it will never be disguised as organic editorial content.
